Êxodo 3:2-10

O anjo de Jeová apareceu-lhe então numa chama de fogo no meio dum espinheiro. Enquanto ele olhava, ora, eis que o espinheiro ardia com fogo, contudo, o espinheiro não se consumia. Em vista disso, Moisés disse: “Deixa-me desviar-me para inspecionar este grande fenômeno, por que o espinheiro não se queima.” Quando Jeová viu que se desviara para inspecionar, Deus o chamou imediatamente do meio do espinheiro e disse: “Moisés! Moisés!” ao que ele disse: “Eis-me aqui.” Então disse: “Não te chegues para cá. Remove as tuas sandálias dos teus pés, porque o lugar em que estás parado é solo sagrado.”

Then Jehovah’s angel appeared to him in a flame of fire in the midst of a thornbush. As he kept looking, why, here the thornbush was burning with the fire and yet the thornbush was not consumed. At this Moses said: “Let me just turn aside that I may inspect this great phenomenon, as to why the thornbush is not burnt up.” When Jehovah saw that he turned aside to inspect, God at once called to him out of the midst of the thornbush and said: “Moses! Moses!” to which he said: “Here I am.” Then he said: “Do not come near here. Draw your sandals from off your feet, because the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

E prosseguiu, dizendo: “Eu sou o Deus de teu pai, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó.” Moisés escondeu então a sua face, porque estava com medo de olhar para o [verdadeiro] Deus. E Jeová acrescentou: “Indubitavelmente, tenho visto a tribulação do meu povo que está no Egito e tenho ouvido seu clamor por causa daqueles que os compelem a trabalhar; porque eu bem sei das dores que sofrem. E estou para descer, a fim de livrá-los da mão dos egípcios e para fazê-los subir daquela terra para uma terra boa e espaçosa, para uma terra que mana leite e mel, para o lugar dos cananeus, e dos hititas, e dos amorreus, e dos perizeus, e dos heveus, e dos jebuseus. E agora, eis que chegou a mim o clamor dos filhos de Israel e eu vi também a opressão com que os egípcios os oprimem. E agora vem, e deixa-me enviar-te a Faraó, e faze que meu povo, os filhos de Israel, saia do Egito.”


And he went on to say: “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses concealed his face, because he was afraid to look at the [true] God. And Jehovah added: “Unquestionably I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their outcry as a result of those who drive them to work; because I well know the pains they suffer. And I am proceeding to go down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a land good and spacious, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the locality of the Ca´naan·ites and the Hit´tites and the Am´or·ites and the Per´iz·zites and the Hi´vites and the Jeb´u·sites. And now, look! the outcry of the sons of Israel has come to me, and I have seen also the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them. And now come and let me send you to Phar´aoh, and you bring my people the sons
of Israel out of Egypt.”
