Mateus 25:1-13

“O reino dos céus se tornará então semelhante a dez virgens que tomaram as suas lâmpadas e saíram ao encontro do noivo. Cinco delas foram tolas e cinco foram discretas. Pois as tolas tomaram as suas lâmpadas, mas não levaram óleo, ao passo que as discretas levaram óleo nos seus recipientes, junto com as suas lâmpadas. Demorando o noivo, todas elas cochilaram e adormeceram. Logo no meio da noite levantou-se um grito: ‘Aqui está o noivo! Ide ao encontro dele.’ Todas aquelas virgens levantaram-se então e puseram as suas lâmpadas em ordem. As tolas disseram às discretas: ‘Dai-nos do vosso óleo, porque as nossas lâmpadas estão prestes a apagar-se.’ As discretas responderam com as palavras: ‘Talvez não haja suficiente para nós e para vós. Ide, antes, aos que o vendem e comprai-o para vós.’ Enquanto foram comprá-lo, chegou o noivo, e as virgens que estavam prontas entraram com ele para a festa de casamento; e a porta foi fechada. Depois veio também o resto das virgens, dizendo: ‘Senhor, senhor, abre para nós!’ Ele disse, em resposta: ‘Eu vos digo a verdade: não vos conheço.’
“Portanto, mantende-vos vigilantes, porque não sabeis nem o dia nem a hora.

“Then the kingdom of the heavens will become like ten virgins that took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were discreet. For the foolish took their lamps but took no oil with them,  whereas the discreet took oil in their receptacles with their lamps. While the bridegroom was delaying, they all nodded and went to sleep. Right in the middle of the night there arose a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Be on YOUR way out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and put their lamps in order. The foolish said to the discreet, ‘Give us some of YOUR oil, because our lamps are about to go out.’ The discreet answered with the words, ‘Perhaps there may not be quite enough for us and YOU. Be on YOUR way, instead, to those who sell it and buy for yourselves.’ While they were going off to buy, the bridegroom arrived, and the virgins that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterwards the rest of the virgins also came, saying, ‘Sir, sir, open to us!’ In answer he said, ‘I tell YOU the truth, I do not know YOU.’
“Keep on the watch, therefore, because YOU know neither the day nor the hour.
